WHO AM I

The site is owned and run by Rod Colquhoun.

Rod is a former international rider, who has maintained
a keen interest in the sport since retiring a decade ago.

To use Rod's own words he was only a "Moderately
talented rider, who was more interested in watching
speedway than riding".

He was, however, part of two League winning and two
Knock Out Cup winning teams in the UK, riding alongside
team mates, Jason Crump, Mick Poole, Stephen Davies,
Leigh Adams and many more.

Domestically he finished 3rd in a highly competitive
NSW Title in 1992 (Todd Wiltshire was 4th) and went on to score 6 points in his one and only Australian Final appearance - North Arm 1992.

He was given his start in the media by Peter White, Publisher of the long running 'Speedway World' magazine. Peter encouraged Rod's zest for writing and was good enough to print many of his articles. His association with Speedway World lasted for several years.

Following an offer from respected Publisher, David Tapp, of a permanent position at Speedway Racing News Magazine, Rod made the switch and joined long serving  Journalist Dennis Newlyn at the publication.

Following Dennis' departure from SRN two years later, Rod took over as Editor, a position he still holds.

After a conversation with David White (CEO - MA) at the Neil Street Testimonial dinner, and subsequent nomination for the role, Rod was elected  to the Speedway Commission of Motorcycling Australia in 2002.

Via that role as a Commissioner, he was responsible, with assistance from David White and Ivan Golding, for the time honoured Australian Solo Championship becoming a series in 2003.

Rod has had a long standing managerial and advisory role with Leigh Adams and has played a part in securing international contracts for riders such as Jason Doyle, Chris Holder and more recently, Tom Hedley.

He also labeled Jason Crump 'The Rottweiller in a race suit' a name that has stuck with the champion since that live broadcast of a speedway Grand Prix on C7 Sport in the late nineties. Rod and host, David Tapp, were the face of C7's Grand Prix coverage for two years.

Rod says his biggest journalistic honour to date was being asked to contribute to Jason Crump's biography and having some of his material used in the book.

Whilst as a commentator, his most cherished moment was sharing the calling duties with David Tapp for three hours live (Fox Sports) when the GP series visited Sydney in October 2002.

All in all, Rod is a speedway fanatic and hopes you enjoy and benefit from the information available on this site.
